Feb 2 2023 - Front suspension design

The front suspension design was replicated in part from a Cooper design of the 1950's. After discussion with Paul we put our ideas together on CAD and exchanged comments (frequently). The upright assembly design generated the most discussion (about a month since the lsat video diary update). As it has  the most stressed out components.

The upright design took at least a month with much too and frow design discussions. David at ??? machined the king pin supports out of EN24 solid bar.

Feb 11 2023 - Front suspension progress

This complex piece of design required a design check by yacking the pieces to the frame and a quick geametery check.

Nov 25 2023 - Bodywork progress, side panels fabricated

 


The bodywork is now well underway. Jim and I are doing the simple panels with one curve and Aliblast (Alastair McGill) did most of the compound panels like the nose, scuttle and tail sections. I had a go at the compound curve on the OS panel to allow access internally to the trottle pedal with my big foot.

Dec 19 2023 - 2CV clutch conversion - early thoughts



 In retrospect this conversion turned out to be a real challenge of ups and downs and misleading information. Terry Griffith on the Austin Seven forum was a savoir in the end the only source of accurate information. This video is good and accurately reflects the thoughts at the time but a subsequent redesign was necessary as I wend down a partial dead end with the release bearing.

 Jan 2025 - Battery management   Total loss system needs careful thought about energy storage during a race meeting and the necessary charging scenarios. The only approach is to estimate worst case. This system has three modes a) Monoposto running from 20AH Lithium M/C battery and expected duration b) Charging Monoposto battery from RV battery and c) Charging RV battery from the van starter battery during going home time.  Here is a table predicting the life of the M/C 20ah Lithium battery and RV battery (donor). AH = Amper Hours WH = Watt Hours. The table assumes the M/C battery is charged from the RV battery at some point in a two day weekend. a) Running from a M/C battery the table labeled LOAD shows 2 days running charging is expected after 10 runs from the RV battery.  Progress Jan 2024 till Jan 2025 Jan 6 2024 - Remote gear linkage (again)   The remote gear linkage with the Type 7 at remote end turned out to be too heavy so an alternative had to be found . More design and fabrication. Video link https://youtu.be/GN3WJG4qLAQ  Jan 8 2024 -  Oil pickup pipe, baffle and reinforcing block for securing head long bolts   This engine is pressure fed so it needs a pickup pipe that is immune to gravitational slosh on corners. This was designed in brass and soldered. The baffle is an aluminium plate.                                                    Monoposto Seven Build The start January 2022 After the successful build of my Super Accessories Special my attention wandered with a view to creating another car. It was not exactly my intention to build another car but the drive to tinker with something else automotive was unstoppable.
